Douglas A. Barritt

Partner and Founder

Doug is the founding partner of The Barritt Firm. He practices primarily in the area of labor and employment law. Throughout his career, Doug has defended employers, small and large, in virtually every kind of dispute that can arise between an employee and employer. He has represented clients before state and federal agencies and in state and federal courts around the country.

Doug also focuses on representing executives entering a new role and also when they are exiting their current role.

Doug’s practice also involves defending executives, managers, and other employees sued for employment-related claims when counsel for their current/former employer (also a defendant) cannot offer representation due to an actual or potential conflict of interest.

Doug also assists individuals and companies in protecting their trade secrets and confidential information.

And, in select cases, Doug advances the interests of employees pre-litigation and, if that is not successful, in litigation.

Prior Firm Experience

Before forming The Barritt Firm, Doug was a founding partner of Barritt Smith Miner LLP. Prior to this, Doug was a partner at the employment law firm of Payne & Fears LLP. He began his legal career as an associate in the Employment Law Department of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, a national law firm.

Academic Background

Doug attended Loyola Law School, J.D. 1990. He graduated in the top 10% of his class and served as the Chief Articles Editor of the International and Comparative Law Journal. Prior to this, Doug graduated from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona with a B.S. in Computer Information Systems, 1985.

Personal & Civic

Doug resides in North Orange County with his wife. He is the father of three daughters and a proud grandfather. He is active in his community, an avid cyclist, and enjoys watching sports in which his grandkids participate. Growing up, Doug worked in his dad’s restaurant, Pizzamania. The restaurant has been making “absolutely the best” pizza in South Whittier for 50 years.
